Hand Salute:  Apparently, previous reports were premature.  However, DA guidance is there is no need to await final passage before adopting the change.

According to this military.com report:The Senate has introduced a bill (S.1877) clarifying U.S. law to allow veterans and service personnel not in uniform to salute the flag. Current law (US Code Title 4, Chapter 1) states that veterans and service members not in uniform should place their hand over their heart without clarifying whether they can or should salute the flag.

Military.com Editor's Note: There are wide-spread false reports claiming that this bill has passed. This bill has not yet gone to the House for a vote, which is not expected to happen until Congress returns from summer recess in September.

Current status according to the Library of Congress: 7/26/2007 Referred to House committee. Status: Referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary

News of the Hawaii-based 2nd Squadron is here   (14 Jan 07)

LTC Jeffrey Peterson, (Left) CO 1st Sqdn 14th Cav and LTC Mark Freitag, CO 4th Sqdn 14th Cav meet on the battlefield in Baghdad. Situation: 15 Nov 06:  On a main route in Southern Baghdad, terrorists conducted an ambush against an Iraqi National Police convoy. The ambush consisted of RPG and machine gun fire. Several National Police were injured. A troop from 4-14 CAV was transiting the route when they came upon the ambush and began to provide assistance. Like the great cavalry unit they are, 4-14 CAV had three platoons and attack aviation move to the sound of the guns, develop the situation, and restore stability to the situation. Shortly thereafter, units from 1-14 CAV arrived. After a short meeting, 4-14 CAV handed the situation over to 1-14 CAV so they could continue mission. 1-14 CAV coordinated a successful combined assault of the village with a force consisting of Strykers, M1A2 tanks, and National Police. This was a great example of teamwork between 14th Cavalry Squadrons, National Police, and other resources from across the Brigade and highlights the capability of Stryker organizations. It was a great day for Thunderhorse and Warhorse to unexpectedly work together in Baghdad.
