At the time of the Regiment's activation in December 1948 its
Headquarters and 1st Battalion
were stationed
at a former Luftwaffe airfield about 25 Km southwest of Kassel.
The
nearest town was Fritzlar. In xxxx 1950 this station was
transferred to the French Army and the Regimental HQ moved to a
temporary station in Bad Nauheim northeast of Frankfurt to await the
completion of the west addition to Downs Barracks in Fulda. The
build up of US forces in the Frankfurt area soon required a second
temporary move in the direction of Fulda, this time to Coleman Barracks
in Gelnhausen. The deployment to Fulda was finally completed in
March 1952.
The following units were attached to the Regiment. (Available
information regarding the time of attachment is shown in paren.)
The 58th Armored
Engineer Company (June 1957)
