This photo was taken on a cloudy day at a place where very few of us
ever saw the sun shine.
If you were a member of a tank crew in the 1960s you may recognize
the scene.
Quite possibly you will never forget it.
(If you have a clearer photo of TCQC action please share it with
us)

If you can identify these tankers please contact us and we will move this photo to the file for their squadron. The timeframe is the early 1960s. Location is Graf or Bergen Hohne. Obviously it is in winter - did anybody ever get to Graf when it was not cold as hell????? We suspect that our NATO allies had priority when the weather was decent.

************

In our time many distinguished statesmen and politicians visited our OPs to have a look at territory under the control of a hostile force. The same sort of thing still goes on at the DMZ in Korea. Both of the gentlemen in the photos above were POTUS (President of the United States) when their photo was taken. The one on the right appears to be geniunely interested in the scene. About the other one there may be some grounds for doubt. If you had to bet, would you bet that his lens covers have been removed???

The hill pictured earlier on this page is the Dammersfeldkuppe (Hill 924) at Wildflecken. It is the highest point in that training area. The Wasserkuppe a few miles closer to the Border is about 25 meters higher. On clear days both are visible from the kaserne in Fulda - particularly in winter when they are snowcapped.
